Woman rescued from wreck after being spotted by Sheriff’s wife
A woman was rescued from a one-vehicle crash after she was spotted by the wife of Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Kyra Myers was traveling in the 9000 W block of 700 S when a red flag caught her eye. Upon further inspection, Mrs. Myers saw a vehicle down the embankment sitting in a ditch. Authorities say the driver, 33-year-old Justina Roberts, was waving a red flag in her attempt to get the attention of passing motorists. Myers immediately called 911 and deputies were dispatched to the scene.
Authorities say it appeared the vehicle had run off the side of the roadway, hit a dirt embankment, became airborne and came to rest in a deep ditch.
Deputies found Roberts still in the drivers seat. She was unable to exit the vehicle on her own due to an ankle injury. Southwest Fire Department and Columbus Regional Hospital EMS removed her through the cars window.
Roberts reportedly told deputies that she was on her way to Mt. Healthy Elementary School to pick up her children when another vehicle ran her off the road.
While deputies were speaking to Roberts, they detected the odor of alcohol. She was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where ber blood-alcohol content tested at .14. Roberts was admitted to the hospital due to the severity of her injury.
Authorities say charges are being forwarded to the Bartholomew County Prosecutors Office for consideration.
