Friday, July 1st
At the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois, Columbus North’s Tyler Duncan shot a first round two-over par, and stands in 111th place.
The boys winner at the Circle K AJGA Junior Championship hosted by Otter Creek is Supapon Amornchaichan of Bangkok, Thailand. He shot one-under par Thursday in the final round and the rising junior finished 7-under for the tourney with rounds of 72-66-71. That provided him a two stroke margin over Seth Smith of Campbellsville, KY, a rising senior, and Sloan Henggeler, a 2022 senior from Ft. Worth, TX, who tied for second.
Columbus North graduating senior Luke Schneider shot rounds of 79-77-76, finishing 16-over for the event, and wound up 42nd.
On the girls side, rising sophomore Michelle Woo of Fremont, CA, was the winner with a 5-under aggregate, including one-under on Thursday. Second place went to Lindsay McGrath, also a rising sophomore from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. She shot par Thursday, was one-under for the tourney, and finished four shots back of Woo.
Incoming Columbus North freshman Ava Bunker was the fourth place finisher, six over par. Her rounds were 73-76-73.
Columbus North will hold a women’s free youth soccer camp on July 30th at the BCSC Soccer Complex. Interested players may go to columbusnorthathletics.org website for sign-up details.
New Point, Indiana, native and retired professional baseball pitcher, coach, and instructor Dyar Miller will be the Grand Marshal of the Decatur County Fair Parade on Sunday, July 10th, at 5:00 PM.
Former Columbus East baseballer Alec Burnett, a recent UIndy graduate, is playing for the Northwoods League’s Wisconsib Rapid Rafters this summer. Alec, at the season’s midpoint, has pitched 11 games, tossing 14 innings with 21 K’s and one save. He has a 2.57 ERA and a 1-0 record. He has just committed to D-1 Wagner College, Staten Island, New York City, where he will continue his baseball career and complete his MBA.
Thursday, June 30th
The 2022 winners of the Jack Cramer Ideals of Athletic Competition Award have been announced: There were two male and two female winners. One lady and one gentleman formed a long-time team as gymnastics coaches at Columbus North, Sandy Freshour and Bob Arthur. The other winners were swim parent and coach Carrie Utterback and Columbus East and Indiana University footballer and Philadelphia Eagles draftee Harry Crider. No date has been set for the awards presentation.
After two rounds at the AJGA Circle K Championship hosted by Otter Creek, the leaders are Supapon Amornchaichan of Bangkok, Thailand, and Michelle Woo of Fremont, CA. S. A. is six under after his 66 on Wednesday and the rising junior leads Leo Wessel of Indianapolis by three shots. Wessel is a rising junior as well. Recent Columbus North graduate Luke Schneider shot 5-over Wednesday and is 12-over for the tourney and tied for 42nd.
Woo is 4-under and the rising sophomore leads Lindsay McGrath of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, also a rising sophomore, by three strokes. Incoming Columbus North freshman Ava Bunker is tied for 8th after a 4-over performance Wednesday, leaving her 5-over for the tourney. Final rounds are Thursday.

The All-Star Circuit of Champions Three Quarter Midget Race on Tuesday at the Tony Stewart Speedway was won by 21-year old Kaylee Bryson of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Tony Stewart won his heat race but engine problems kept him out of the feature at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair.
Columbus North boys basketball coach Paul Ferguson has been named District 3 East Representative for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. His term is for three years and begins in August.
Wednesday, June 29th
There is a 3-way tie for the lead after the first round of the AJGA opening round at Otter Creek. Shooting two-under 70’s were leo Wessel of Indy, a junior-to-be, Gavin Clutts of Hazard, KY, a senior-to-be, and Seth Smith of Campbellsville, KY, a senior-to-be. Recent Columbus North graduate Luke Schneider was 7-over at 79.
On the girls side, also shooting 70 and tying for the lead were Lindsay McGrath of Oakville, Ontario, and Michelle Woo of Fremont, CA, both rising sophomores. Ava Bunker, the incoming freshman at Columbus North, is tied for fourth after a one-over 73.
