Driver dies in Sunday morning crash near Edinburgh

An early Sunday morning crash on Interstate 65 near Edinburgh killed a Freetown man and seriously injured his mother.

Indiana State Police are reporting that the crash happened at about 2:45 a.m. in southern Shelby County, when a vehicle ran off the road, hit a tree and rolled several times. Shelby County deputies were the first on the scene and called for a medical helicopter. But 41-year-old Kenneth Cubbage Jr. of Freetown was pronounced dead at the scene.

His mother, 62-year-old Connie Cubbage, was a passenger in the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt. She was taken to IU Methodist Hospital by ambulance. State police say she was in stable condition.

The accident remains under investigation.
