Winn Powers Cardinals Past Cubs in Another Busch Bash

Masyn Winn was mashing on Tuesday, homering and driving in four runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-7 win over the Chicago Cubs in a wild NL Central shootout.
The victory gave the Redbirds their seventh win in eight games and featured more fireworks from a lineup that’s suddenly finding its groove. Winn’s two-run homer in the third and go-ahead double in the fourth capped a four-run surge that turned a 5-5 tie into an 8-5 St. Louis lead.
Lars Nootbaar went yard for the second straight night, and Nolan Gorman launched a 432-foot bomb to tie things in the fourth. Even though the Cubs got a three-run homer from Seiya Suzuki and a two-run shot from Nico Hoerner, they couldn’t push across the tying run late.
A key seventh-inning defensive sequence sealed the deal. With two on and one out, JoJo Romero fielded a bunt and threw out Pete Crow-Armstrong, then Alec Burleson made a circus catch along the right field fence to end the inning.
St. Louis now has nine home runs in its last four games and will send Erick Fedde to the mound Wednesday looking to clinch the series sweep.
