Wheeler Spins a Gem as Reds Run Out of Steam

It was a tough day for the Big Red Machine, which sputtered and coughed its way to a 3-1 loss against Zack Wheeler and the Phillies. Wheeler delivered a one-hit masterpiece, striking out 12 Reds hitters and only surrendering a solo homer to Austin Hays in an otherwise dominant display.

Cincinnati couldn’t find the spark they needed to claw back, dropping their second straight and heading into a homestand needing to oil the gears and get the bats humming again. But as any Reds fan knows, even when the Machine stalls, it doesn’t take long to roar back to life.
