South Decatur’s Cinderella Run Ends in Semi-State

The South Decatur girls basketball team’s remarkable postseason journey came to a close in the Shelbyville Semi-State, as they fell 64-26 to Class A No. 2-ranked Borden.
After avenging regular-season losses in the sectional and regional rounds, the Cougars ran into a powerhouse Borden squad that wasted no time establishing control. The Braves stormed out to a 21-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
Makayla Somers fought to keep South Decatur in the game, leading the team with 14 points, but the Cougars struggled to find consistent scoring against Borden’s smothering defense. Despite the defeat, South Decatur’s postseason surge was nothing short of inspiring, and their 16-12 overall record marks a major step forward for the program.
With a strong foundation in place, the Cougars will look to build on this success in the seasons to come.
