Shadow Swings and Fairway Fights: Olympians and Panthers Battle at Seymour Invite
Under sunny skies and on a course known for its sneaky slopes and fast greens, the Columbus East Olympians and Jennings County Panthers hit the links Tuesday at the Seymour Invitational held at Shadowood Golf Course.
The Olympians continued their season’s opening week with a fifth-place finish, carding a team score of 443 in a strong field. Leading the charge once again was Abby King, who turned in her second straight 103 — a consistent start that has her poised for a solid season. Amaylie Walsh wasn’t far behind with a 108, followed by Emma Gill with a 109. Calleigh Gill chipped in a 123 and Sofia Perez rounded out East’s total with a 129.
The Panthers pounced into sixth place with a 463 team score. Amilia Gresham matched East’s leader with a 103 of her own, proving she’s a force to be reckoned with early in the season. Grace Oden followed with a 109, while Temprance Eggleston shot 119, Victoria Baez notched a 132, and Shelby Klescht closed it out with a 137.
New Albany narrowly edged Bedford North Lawrence 337-338 for the team title, while Trinity Lutheran finished seventh with a 550. Both East and Jennings showed signs of steady improvement, and with their schedules heating up, these teams look ready to go full swing into the heart of the fall golf season.
