Bloomington North Regional – State Qualifiers Recap
The Bloomington North Regional proved to be a track meet full of fireworks as six athletes from Columbus North, Jennings County, and surrounding schools punched their tickets to next week’s IHSAA State Finals.
Columbus North headlined the evening with a slew of state qualifiers:
  • 4×800 Relay: Graham Pumphrey, Logan Vanzant, Neal White, and Jace Works ran a blazing 7:47.80 for second place.
  • 800 Meters: Works placed second at 1:52.54 in a photo finish.
  • Hurdles Sweep: Owen Russell finished second in both the 110m (15.11) and 300m (40.15).
  • 3200 Meters: White placed third with a 9:13.88, while Pumphrey also qualified in the 1600 with a time of 4:15.85.
Jennings County’s Kraedyn Young delivered a gold-medal moment in the 1600, clocking a 4:13.62 to win the regional and advance to state. He also competed in the 3200 but fell just short of a second qualification.
Other area standouts included:
  • Columbus East: Jared Brooks (6th in discus), Keaton Lawson (7th in long jump and tied for 8th in high jump), and the 4×100 relay team (7th).
  • South Decatur: The 4×100 team broke the school record with a 43.75 and placed 4th overall.
  • Hauser: Luke Bruner placed 5th in the shot put.
  • Trinity Lutheran: Jake Holland finished 5th in the 110 hurdles.
Columbus North placed third as a team behind powerhouse Bloomington North and runner-up Bloomington South. It’s shaping up to be a strong showing at the IHSAA State Finals next Friday.
