Reds Get Brewed in Series Finale as Milwaukee Bats Explode
It was a rough day at Great American Ball Park, where the Cincinnati Reds saw their red-hot May momentum cool off quickly in a 9-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brew Crew slugged their way to victory, launching three home runs and extending their series win streak over the Reds to 12 straight.
Reds starter Andrew Abbott came into the day undefeated with a dazzling 0.55 ERA in May, but the Brewers cracked the code, tagging him for five runs — a season-high — and handing him his first loss of the year. Jackson Chourio got the fireworks started with a two-run shot in the fifth, followed by Daz Cameron’s two-run homer an inning later. Isaac Collins delivered the knockout punch with a three-run blast in the ninth.
Cincinnati had their chance early, loading the bases in the third, but couldn’t cash in. Elly De La Cruz grounded out and the Reds never threatened again. The bullpen didn’t fare much better — Wade Miley allowed four runs in just two innings during his first appearance back with the club.
The Reds fall to 30-33 and will try to bounce back Friday when they welcome the Diamondbacks to town. Nick Lodolo gets the nod as Cincinnati looks to get back on track and keep pace in a tight NL Central race.
