Pirates Blank Reds Behind Skenes’ Dominance
It was a rough night at the plate for the Cincinnati Reds as they ran into a buzzsaw named Paul Skenes. The Pittsburgh Pirates’ ace fired six shutout innings, striking out eight and extending his scoreless streak to 27 2/3 innings in a 7-0 win Thursday night.
Cincinnati managed nine hits but couldn’t cash them in, going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Bryan Reynolds and Henry Davis each homered for the Pirates, while starter Brady Singer took the loss for the Reds.
The series continues Friday as rookie right-hander Chase Burns looks to help the Reds even the score.
