Perry Powers Past Pressure to Punch Ticket to State
The Columbus North boys golf team showed up to Thursday’s Providence Regional ready to swing for a state berth, and while the Bulldogs just missed advancing as a group, senior Austin Perry made sure they’d still have a seat at the Prairie View table.
Perry pieced together a sharp round under tight conditions, finishing with a 2-over 74 that earned him a shot at the final individual qualifying spot. That’s when the real pressure kicked in. Locked in a playoff duel with Greenwood’s Kalen Rowland,
Perry showed veteran poise across four sudden-death holes before dropping a long putt to seal the win—and send him marching to next week’s state finals.
It was a gritty day on the greens for the rest of the pack. Brady Schneider carded a 77 and Joseph Perkins followed with a 78, while Tyler Dillingham and Reid Perry capped off the team’s strong regional run. Columbus East’s Mason Reeves also competed individually and turned in a respectable 84, wrapping up a stellar postseason swing for the Olympians.
