Olympians Swing into Season with Strong Showing at Stone Crest
The Columbus East girls golf team kicked off their 2025 campaign with grit and determination, battling the fairways and fast greens at the Bloomington South Invitational on Monday. The Olympians placed 11th in a loaded field, tallying a 429 team score at the always-challenging Stone Crest Golf Course.
Leading the charge was senior Abby King, who reigned over the front nine with a team-best 103. Emma Gill wasn’t far behind with a 104, and twin-sister synergy was in full swing as Calleigh Gill followed closely with a 106. Amaylie Walsh chipped in a 116, and Sofia Perez rounded out the scorecard with a 122.
Though the leaderboard was stacked with top-tier talent—Franklin captured the title with a 301, Floyd Central fired a 305 for second, and Batesville edged Center Grove 309-311 for third—the Olympians proved they belong in the conversation.
East tees off again today in the Seymour Invitational, facing familiar foes in Jennings County and Trinity Lutheran. With round one under their belts, the girls in orange and brown are poised to climb the leaderboard and keep their golf games going full swing.
