Lodolo Locks It Down: Reds Blank Giants for Second Straight Game

The Cincinnati Reds are finding their groove out west. Behind six scoreless innings from Nick Lodolo, the Reds edged the Giants 1-0 on Tuesday night, securing back-to-back shutouts in the Bay and silencing one of the hottest teams in baseball.
Lodolo scattered just three hits over his outing and mixed in pinpoint command to keep the Giants guessing. The bullpen took care of the rest—Graham Ashcraft fired two scoreless innings, and Emilio Pagán earned his second save of the year by shutting the door in the ninth.
The game’s lone run came via a Jose Trevino RBI groundout in the third, scoring Spencer Steer, who had two doubles on the night. Gavin Lux chipped in with a double and single, while San Francisco’s Landen Roupp took a tough-luck loss despite giving up just one run on seven hits in six innings.
It was Cincinnati’s fourth 1-0 game of the season, and this time the Reds came out on top.
They’ll go for the sweep tonight, sending Nick Martinez (0-2, 5.91 ERA) to the mound against future Hall-of-Famer Justin Verlander (0-0, 6.14 ERA).
