Jets Fly High in Tennis Opener, Edge Olympians
It was a battle of county rivals on the courts in Greenwood, and the Hauser Jets opened their boys tennis season by flying past the Columbus East Olympians in a thrilling 3-2 decision.
The Jets took control in doubles play, where Kam Blair and RJ Foster dominated 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, while Jacob Bell and Graydon Kilps pulled out a tense 6-3, 7-6(4) win at No. 2. Joel Bechtel sealed the match with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6(8) triumph at No. 2 singles.
East’s bright spots came from the top and bottom of the singles ladder. Trevor Ernst looked sharp at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win, while Kai Bergmann blanked his opponent at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Bergmann stayed hot in East’s follow-up match against Greenwood, collecting the lone Olympian point in a 4-1 team loss.
For Hauser, the second match of the day against Greenwood was called off due to excessive heat. Still, the Jets left opening weekend with momentum and bragging rights after clipping the Olympians.
