IU Columbus Women’s Basketball Claims First Home Victory, Men Fall to Lourdes

It was a historic night for IU Columbus as the women’s basketball team picked up their first-ever home victory, defeating Kuyper College 72-53 at Nexus Park. The Crimson Pride came out with intensity and dominated the game early, jumping to a commanding 30-11 lead midway through the second quarter. Although Kuyper managed to cut the deficit to 12 points in the third quarter, a clutch three-pointer by Jacelyn Starks ignited an 11-0 run that secured the win for IU Columbus.

Leading the scoring for the Crimson Pride was Amaya Collins with 16 points. Jacelyn Starks followed closely with 15 points, while Abby Fleetwood and Sydney Waldron added 14 and 13 points, respectively, showcasing a balanced attack that kept Kuyper’s defense on its heels. This well-rounded performance underscored the teamwork and determination driving IU Columbus in their first season.

The IU Columbus men’s team, however, faced a tougher challenge, falling to the undefeated Lourdes Gray Wolves, 107-76. Despite the loss, Deante Luster had an impressive night with 25 points, and Damonte Thompson added 15 points to the Crimson Pride’s efforts. Lourdes took control early, building a 61-32 lead by halftime and maintaining their dominance throughout the game.
