Hot Bats Help Olympians Hold Off Brownstown in High-Scoring Opener
Columbus East softball opened its season with a bang—literally—taking down Class 2A No. 6 Brownstown Central in a 12-8 slugfest.
Mackenzie Hampton led the offensive outburst, going 4 for 4 with four RBIs, including a pair of run-scoring singles in the first and second innings. Jackie Boroughs went deep with a two-run homer, and Baleigh Fish and Natasha Armstrong each doubled home a run. Taylor Wessel added a 3-for-4 night from the eighth spot in the order.
Lola Watkins delivered the defensive play of the night with a game-ending double play in the seventh to preserve the win. The Olympians are now 1-0 with 28 runs scored over their first two games (including the rained-out opener).
