Guardians Slam the Brakes on Reds’ Hot Streak in Cleveland

After five straight wins, the Cincinnati Reds got caught in a Cleveland storm on Wednesday afternoon.
Carlos Santana crushed a third-inning grand slam—on the anniversary of his big-league debut, no less—and the Guardians piled on to take an 11-2 win, avoiding a season sweep by their in-state rivals.
The Reds got solo home runs from Elly De La Cruz and TJ Friedl, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a six-run outing from starter Nick Lodolo, who lasted just 3 1/3 innings. Logan Allen picked up the win for Cleveland, while Lane Thomas added a three-run blast in a four-run sixth to put the game out of reach.
Despite the setback, Cincinnati remains on the upswing heading into their weekend series in Detroit, where Nick Martinez will get the ball Friday against the Tigers.
