Giants Ride Verlander’s First Home Win, Cool Off Cubs

Veteran ace Justin Verlander finally earned his first home victory in a Giants uniform, leading San Francisco to a 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Verlander (2-10) went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five. Backed by home runs from Wilmer Flores and Matt Chapman, the Giants snapped Chicago’s three-game win streak and gave Oracle Park fans reason to roar.
The Cubs (76-56) had built momentum in the NL Central chase, but a middle-inning surge from San Francisco swung the game. Carson Kelly’s RBI single briefly gave Chicago the lead in the fifth, but the Giants answered immediately with a bloop RBI from Rafael Devers and Chapman’s decisive blast in the sixth.
Despite the loss, Chicago still sits second in the Central, 5.5 games behind Milwaukee. The Giants (64-68) notched their third straight win and continue to claw for pride as Verlander finally tamed his struggles at home.
