Cubs Clipped Late by Cardinals in Series Finale

In a tight NL Central clash, the Chicago Cubs saw their rally hopes dashed in a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Tied at 2-2 in the seventh, St. Louis plated the go-ahead run on a two-out RBI single from Nolan Gorman after Jordan Walker stole second.
Shota Imanaga was sharp on the mound for Chicago, striking out nine without a walk over 6 2/3 innings, but the Cardinals made the most of their few scoring chances. Matt Shaw provided the Cubs’ biggest swing with a solo homer in the fifth to tie the game, while Pete Crow-Armstrong swiped his 30th base of the season before being picked off.
The loss leaves the Cubs six games behind first-place Milwaukee as they turn their attention north of the border for a series in Toronto.
