Controversial Call Trips Up Olympians
The Columbus East boys’ soccer team suffered a tough-luck 2-1 loss at Bloomington South Tuesday after a late, disputed goal sealed the match.
With just over a minute left, a second ball was spotted on the pitch, leading many players to stop play when an assistant referee raised his flag. But the head official allowed play to continue, and South knocked in the game-winner.
Earlier, Ryan Turner equalized for East (1-2) off a feed from Farid Garcia Renteria, but the controversial finish left the Olympians feeling more than a little snake-bitten. Still, they’ll look to turn the heartbreak into motivation for their next match.
