Columbus East Walks It Off to Snap Skid
Columbus East baseball picked up a much-needed win Monday evening, edging Southport 4-3 in dramatic fashion. After surrendering a one-run lead in the top of the seventh, the Olympians responded in the home half to walk it off and snap a four-game losing streak.
Starter Drew Rotert was effective on the mound for East, tossing 6 1/3 innings and limiting Southport to six hits while giving up just two earned runs. The game tightened in the final frame when Southport knotted it at three on a triple and RBI single, but East didn’t blink.
Marcus Wilkinson sparked the bottom half with a leadoff single, and the Olympians used patience at the plate to load the bases. With two outs, a bases-loaded walk brought in the winning run. East only managed three hits in the contest but capitalized on timely opportunities and overcame early defensive miscues to move to 6-11 on the season.
