Columbus East Olympians Split Results Across Sports
Softball:
Columbus East softball posted a dominant 15-0 win Friday over Brown County, led by Natasha Armstrong’s 4-for-4 performance and a double-digit strikeout outing by pitchers Baleigh Fish and Raegyn Foster. On Saturday, the Olympians split a doubleheader with Greensburg, dropping game one 9-4 but bouncing back with a 4-0 shutout in game two behind Fish’s pitching gem and RBI hits from Armstrong, Boroughs, and Watkins. East now sits at 3-1 on the season.
Baseball:
The Olympians dropped a 4-2 heartbreaker to Scottsburg on Friday, stranding nine runners on base. Relief pitchers Ryker Stott and JD Rotert combined for 7.1 innings of strong work. East rebounded in game one of a doubleheader against Floyd Central on Saturday, taking a 6-4 win behind Rotert’s two-RBI performance and six-inning start. However, the Highlanders blanked the Olympians 5-0 in the second game.
Boys Volleyball:
East fell to state-ranked Franklin Central in four sets Thursday, despite an energetic opening win in set one. Ian Scholl led the team with 20 digs and five kills, while Alex Duncan added 20 assists and 16 digs. The loss dropped the Olympians to 6-8.
Girls Tennis:
East opened its season with a tough 5-0 loss to Brown County on Friday. All three singles players and both doubles teams dropped their matches, though multiple sets were closely contested.
Track & Field:
Both East boys and girls finished ninth at the Columbus North Invitational. Jared Brooks led the boys with a sixth-place finish in the discus, and Sophie Glick took fifth in the girls’ 400-meter dash.
