Columbus East Girls Wrestling Takes Regional Title by Storm

The Columbus East girls wrestling team proved unstoppable at the Mooresville Regional, taking home the championship in dominant fashion. The Olympians scored 164 points, edging out No. 2 Whiteland (154) and besting top-ranked programs like Mooresville (131) and Franklin (129.5) in the process. This victory marks a historic moment in the inaugural year of IHSAA-sanctioned girls wrestling.
Senior twins Grace and Monica McMahon led the charge with first-place finishes at 170 and 190 pounds, respectively. Grace pinned all four of her opponents in the first period, while Monica showcased her grit, pinning her final opponent in the third period. East is sending eight wrestlers to the state finals, including Saige Plummer (125) and Eden Knight (145), who both finished second. Columbus North’s Vika Konovalenko and three Jennings County wrestlers also advanced.
The state finals will be held on January 17th at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, where the Olympians aim to extend their remarkable season.
