Boys Wrestling: Stellar Performances Across the Region
It was a weekend to remember for local boys wrestling teams, with strong showings in conference tournaments.
Columbus North fought hard at the Conference Indiana Wrestling Tournament, finishing fourth overall. The Bull Dogs earned big wins over Bloomington North and Southport, while Ty Brueche (126), Justice Thornton (138), Cohen Long (144), and Asher Ratliff (157) led the way with undefeated 5-0 performances. Luke Spurgeon (150) added a 4-1 record, while Jackson Haston (165) and Evan Saevre (190) showcased their resilience with 3-2 finishes.
At the Hoosier Hills Conference meet, Columbus East dominated, winning seven weight classes but ultimately placing second behind host Floyd Central. Champions included Ethan Poling (113), Caleb Kirkpatrick (138), Lincoln Cooper (150), Clayton Miller (165), Hank Redman (175), Colin McMahon (190), and James Moss (215). Caleb Cooper (144) and Gage Rutan (132) claimed second-place finishes, while Wyatt Behnke (126) and Aiden Miller (157) added third-place results.
Jennings County placed fifth in the same tournament, with Lane Kirchner standing out as the 144-pound champion. Carter Mikels (106) earned second, while Gomie Gomez (215) placed third. Fourth-place finishes from Mason Sorenson (150), Nick Cortes (165), and Ethan Cash (175) rounded out the Panthers’ solid showing.
