BIG RED MACHINE FIRES ON ALL CYLINDERS BEHIND ABBOTT’S GEM
The Cincinnati Reds turned back the clock on Tuesday with an old-school pitcher’s duel victory, blanking the Cleveland Guardians 1-0 thanks to a complete-game three-hit masterpiece from Andrew Abbott.
The southpaw was surgical, striking out five and walking just one across 110 pitches for his first career complete game. He became the first Red to pitch a nine-inning shutout since Wade Miley’s no-no in 2021—also against the Guardians.
Cincinnati scratched across the only run of the game in the fifth inning when Spencer Steer sliced an RBI single to right. That lone spark proved to be all Abbott needed as he slammed the door in the ninth with a double play and a harmless flyout.
With the win, the Reds extended their win streak to five and improved to a perfect 5-0 in the Ohio Cup series. They’ll go for the sweep Wednesday with Nick Lodolo on the hill.
Bonus stat: Elly De La Cruz quietly made Reds history, becoming the first player in franchise lore to tally 20+ stolen bases in each of his first three seasons.
