Bears Bare Their Teeth in Seventh-Inning Stunner Over Olympians
The Columbus East softball team was just three outs from a road win on Wednesday night—until Lawrence Central walked it off in heartbreaker fashion.
East held a narrow 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Bears answered with two clutch hits, including a game-winning double, to hand the Olympians a 4-3 defeat.
Despite the loss, East’s bats were lively. Lola Watkins led the charge with a 3-for-4 day that included a double and an RBI. Jacque Boroughs and Jade Hampton each tallied two hits as well. Pitcher Raegyn Foster went the distance, striking out four and scattering eight hits in a gritty effort.
East had taken an early lead after capitalizing on an error and a Watkins single in the second. After a back-and-forth sixth inning tied the game, East briefly reclaimed the lead on a dropped third strike—but couldn’t close the door.
Next up, the Olympians look to bounce back in Thursday’s game at Seymour.
