Vehicle Crash and Fire
Early Yesterday Morning, Bartholomew County Sheriffs deputies responded to a report of a vehicle crash and fire at N 500 W/W Lowell Rd . The accident was reported at 2:48 AM on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, Deputies discovered the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. While deputies were trying to assess the situation and see if anyone was still in the vehicle, The driver and her passenger approached the deputies on foot and said they were the ones who had been in the vehicle.
They had attempted to reach a nearby house to call for help but returned to the scene of the accident when they saw the emergency lights.
The fire was extinguished upon the arrival of the responding fire departments.
Deputies said that the vehicle was traveling southbound on N 500 W when the driver failed to properly navigate the curve in the roadway just north of W Lowell Road. The vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway and overturned.
The vehicle caught fire after the collision. The driver, Sara McCleary of Columbus and Cody Hyde of Indianapolis, were transported to Columbus Regional Hospital by EMS to be treated for minor injuries.
