Three Arrested During Sex Offender Investigation
Three local people have been arrested and preliminarily charged with felonies as a result of a Columbus Police Department investigation into a sex offender living near an elementary school.
CPD received a tip of suspicious activity at a home in 200 block of S Brooks Street. While looking into the tip, Investigators discovered that the resident Phillip Vennie, a known serious violent predator, was prohibited from living at the house because
it is within 1000 feet of CSA Fodrea Elementary School. Vennie was arrested on August 5th after officers witnessed Vennie on the school property. He was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charge of Unlawful Entry by a Serious Sex Offender, a level 6 felony. He remains in the jail and more charges are possible.
Later while detectives were executing a search warrant on the home for evidence, officers saw a white SUV leave the residence. Officers stopped the vehicle and noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After a search of the vehicle was conducted the driver, Jordon Bryant, was arrested for cocaine possession while carrying a handgun. The passenger Stephanie Hudak was also arrested for assisting a criminal as a result of the investigation.
