Rural internet service to receive boost from state
The providers of internet services to six area addresses will receive a share of more than half a million dollars from the state to bring internet access to rural areas.
According to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, the state has awarded its seventh round of funds through the Indiana Connectivity Program. This round provided more than $550,000 in funds to assist internet providers with the cost of extending services to underserved rural areas across the state. Local providers are matching over $227,000 towards the expansions.
This round will assist 140 addresses, with 136 of those being homes and four being businesses.
Although exact addresses were not announced, one of those addresses is being served by Jackson County REMC, three by Johnson County REMC and two more by South Central Indiana REMC, which serves Morgan, Monroe, Brown, Owen, Putnam, Clay, and Johnson counties
