Police shooting investigation underway in Decatur County
Indiana State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting yesterday in Decatur County.
According to troopers, at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon two Decatur County deputies patrolling in a rural part of the county spotted a vehicle believed to be involved in an earlier incident in Ripley County. A Greensburg officer arrived to assist and they pulled the vehicles over on County Road 400 East just north of County Road 300 North near Greensburg. The suspect in the prior Ripley County incident was believed to be in the vehicle and was also wanted on an active arrest warrant.
Two men and a woman were inside and police ordered them to get out of the vehicle individually. A male passenger got out armed with a handgun and pointed the weapon at police, troopers say. The officers opened fire and the man dropped to the ground. Police moved the other occupants of the vehicle to safety and provided medical aid to the man for his gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived at the scene and the suspect, 39-year-old Travis Manlief of Greensburg was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Decatur County Sheriff called in the state police to investigate. Trooper say the officers involved were each equipped with body worn cameras that were activated during this incident, along with in car cameras in each of their patrol vehicles.
The names of the deputies and officer have not yet been released.
