New fishing pier to be dedicated at Muscatatuck refuge
Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge will be dedicating a new fishing pier as part of a Family Fishing Day coming up in a few weeks.
The activities at the refuge east of Seymour on U.S. 50 will be from 8 to 1 on Saturday, Sept. 13th.
Kids 15 and under can take part in a fishing contest starting at 8 a.m. at the Discovery Pond. Lake Linda will also be open all day to anglers.
At 10 a.m. there will be a dedication ceremony for the new fishing pier on Lake Linda,. The pier is ADA accessible and was funded by a grant from the Jackson County Visitor Center, the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, children will have a chance to win fishing rods and reels donated by the Richart family in memory of Allison Richart.
The wildlife society will also have rods and reels you can borrow for the day and there will be free bait donated by Premier Farm and Pet.
The visitor’s center will have free activities for children including bandanna decorating, Japanese fish painting and contests, along with door prizes and giveaways. There will be a free hot dog lunch.
Organizers say that all state and federal fishing regulations will be in effect during the day’s activities.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. at the visitors center.
