Man accused of stealing more than $1 million from grandmother

A man has been arrested accused of stealing more than $1 million from his grandmother in Madison.
According to the Indiana State Police, an investigation began in May of last year after a financial institution reported suspicious activity on an elderly woman’s account.
Police say that 54-year-old Eric Dyer of South Carolina, assumed power of attorney and legal guardianship of his elderly grandmother who lives in an assisted living facility in Jefferson County in 2021. Dyer is accused of taking more than $1 million of his grandmother’s money over several years, which he used of personal expenses. He had also fallen behind in paying the bills for the assisted living facility.
A warrant was issued for Dyer on felony charges including theft, money laundering, corrupt business influence, and neglect of a dependent, as well as a misdemeanor charge of Elder Abuse. He was arrested Thursday at a hotel by Madison police.
