Local groups turn out to help military veterans
About 40 veterans turned out yesterday looking for help, information or just lunch at the fifth annual Stand Down for Veterans at Donner Center.
The event, which was open to vets from Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings and Shelby counties, offered help ranging from Hepatitis A vaccinations from the Bartholomew County Health Department, assistance with veterans benefits from the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs and the county veterans services office or just a pin and thanks from Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. About 25 organizations took part.
Breakfast and lunch were provided, along with music and take-home sub sandwiches for those in need. There was also help for the homeless veterans who attended, including bed rolls, clothing and food assistance.
The annual event is organized by Thrive Alliance.
