Jones to step down as head of Columbus parks
The city of Columbus will soon begin looking for a new director for the city parks department.
City officials have announced that Mark Jones is resigning as director of the parks department, effective September 4th after almost 29 years of public service. He has served as parks director for 11 years. Jones is leaving to pursue other professional opportunities.
Mayor Mary Ferdon praised his commitment to the parks system. She said his leadership has made a lasting impact and thanked him for his service.
Among the major milestones under Jones’ leadership, the city turned the former Fair Oaks Mall into Nexus Park, a joint health and wellness facility in partnership with Columbus Regional Health. The city also constructed the Circle K Fieldhouse as part of the project.
Jones said he is proud of what the community has accomplished together and that it has been an honor to serve the people of Columbus.
A search for a new parks director will begin in the coming weeks.
