IU architecture school students work with rural communities to be unveiled

Several area communities have been working with students from the IU Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design this summer on concept plans for placemaking projects in the rural communities.

Their work will be unveiled this week in a public open house in Bloomington.

According to the school, students from the Comprehensive Design program collaborated with rural communities across Indiana this summer to explore innovative ways to activate public spaces and inspire connection. Projects include murals, parklets, pre-architectural designs, wayfinding signage, and public art installations.

Among the communities taking part have been Nashville with the Lincoln Pinch Park and the town of Edinburgh.

This week’s showcase will feature visual presentations of the final project designs, and students will be on hand to discuss their work.

The open house will be on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Maxwell Hall in Bloomington. That is at 750 E. Kirkland Avenue.

The event is free and you are invited to attend.
