Funeral today for Seymour woman killed in motorcycle crash

Today, friends and family will be remembering the life of a Seymour woman who died last week in a motorcycle crash in Washington County.

According to the Washington County Sherriff’s Department, 31-year-old Jessica Pelley was a passenger in a motorcycle crash Thursday evening on State Road 39 near the intersection of State Road 256. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s office.

The driver of the motorcycle, 34 year old David Stitzel of Seymour, was seriously injured in the crash. He was flown by Air Methodist helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses said that Stitzel was driving south on the state highway when the cycle drove off the west side of the road, striking a guardrail.

Neither Stitzel nor Pelley were wearing helmets, police say.

Funeral services for Pelley, a Columbus native, will be today at Christiansen Funeral Home in Seymour. visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. with services at 5.
