Four arrested in dozens of area thefts, burglaries

Four people have been arrested in Jennings County after more than $125,000 in stolen property was found during a probation home check.

The Jennings County Sheriff’s Department announced yesterday that deputies were working with the county probation department on the home check earlier this month when they noticed stolen items out in plain view. After a search warrant was served, deputies discovered stolen power tools, generators, welders, toolboxes and other equipment.

57 year old Rodney Mead and 30-year-old Jeremy Long, both of North Vernon, were arrested on felony burglary and theft charges.

The investigation led to another home in Campbell Township, where a search warrant was served on Thursday. Deputies found more stolen property including a motorcycle reported stolen from Jefferson County.

35-year-old Michael Murphy and 36-year old Mackenzie Jenkins, both of North Vernon were arrested on felony theft charges.

Investigators believe the items recovered are linked to nearly 20 burglaries and thefts spanning four counties, with many occurring recently in Jennings County.

If you believe you are the rightful owner of any of the property, you can contact Deputy Allen Ritchie at [email protected]. You should be ready to provide a detailed description of the items taken.
