Exhibit Columbus installation removed over quality concerns

One of the installations for Exhibit Columbus has been removed, with organizers saying it didn’t meet the program’s standards.

The exhibit at St. Peters Lutheran Church included a large sign, saying “Nothing to See Here.” It was meant to highlight how designers from the Midwest are overlooked by the country at large.

It was a project designed by of one of the Exhibit Columbus University Design Fellows, Sarah Aziz from the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning. It included wooden figures of Midwestern architects and designers created by Steven Carner of New Harmony, Indiana inside twelve shrine shaped enclosures.

Exhibit Columbus organizers says that the installation was only on display last weekend and was removed to uphold the integrity of the program and out of respect for the church. Organizers say that Aziz made late and unapproved changes to the concept and its on-site creation. As installed, it did not meet Exhibit Columbus standards.

The organizers say that Aziz controls all of the work’s components, and it could be exhibited again elsewhere.

The remaining 12 Exhibit Columbus installations with a theme of “Yes and..” will be on display through November 30th.
