A drug dealer is heading to prison for 10 years after a sentencing hearing yesterday.

According to Bartholomew County Prosecutor Lindsey Holden-Kay the sentence was handed down by Bartholomew Circuit Court Judge Kelly Benjamin against Jonathon Villegas.

Villegas was accused of selling fentanyl to a confidential informant as part of a Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team operation in November of 2023. Benjamin sentenced him to 10 years in the Department of Corrections prisons for the felony charge of dealing in a narcotic.

Villegas was already on probation for possession of methamphetamine at the time of the arrest. He will have to serve another 1,000 days, or about two years and nine months in prison for violating the terms of his probation by committing another offenses.

Holden-Kay said the sentencing sends a message to drug dealers in the community. She says “By removing this dealer from our streets for the next ten years, we are taking an important step toward protecting public safety and reducing the harm caused by narcotics trafficking.”
