Dog saved from Columbus home fire
Columbus police captured and protected a family dog that escaped from a home fire Tuesday afternoon on Yellowwood Drive.
According to the Columbus Fire Department, rescue workers were called to the home at about 12:16 p.m. Tuesday after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from inside. When firefighters opened the door to enter the home, a dog ran from inside. Two police officers on the scene corralled the dog and placed it in a patrol vehicle for its safety.
Firefighters entered the home which was filled with thick smoke and found a fire that had spread into the attic. They were able to quickly get the fire under control.
No one was at home at the time of the fire, firefighters say. The damages to the home including the attic and roof are extensive and the residents will likely be displaced from the home. The fire department is working with the owner of the home to address their emergency housing needs.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was injured.
