Columbus officials look to improve intersection safety near northside schools

Columbus city officials are looking into ways to make an intersection near Columbus North High School and Northside Middle School safer.

A public meeting will be held at the intersection of 27th Street and Home Avenue tomorrow evening to talk about the results of a safety project at the intersection. The temporary safety demonstration project is meant to slow down traffic and to improve driver awareness through a combination of colored pavement markings, curb extensions and posts.

The project grew out of a 2023 traffic study at the intersection. That study recommended installing traffic calming treatments, installing raised crosswalks, and adding curb extensions/corner bulb outs.

City officials say that they are still looking for public feedback on the project. There will be an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the intersection. You can also fill out a survey online. You can find a link here https://www.columbus.in.gov/bikewalk/
