Columbus East grad to serve as area Indiana State Police trooper

Indiana State Police are welcoming a Columbus high school graduate as the newest trooper at the Versailles Post.

According to the department, Trooper Cameron Curry has been assigned to the district after graduating last week with the 87th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy class. He was one of 20 new troopers to graduate.

The 29-year-old Curry is a graduate of Columbus East High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He worked for the Michigan State Police for more than three years, before being hired by the Columbus Police Department and moving back to Bartholomew County. He was with the Columbus force for a year and a half before moving to the Indiana State Police.

Curry will now start field training before he will start solo patrols in zone one of the Versailles District.

Curry, his wife and their three dogs live in Bartholomew County.
