Columbus council to make final decision on assisted living rezoning

Tonight, Columbus City Council will be considering the final approval of rezoning of a commercially zoned property at the corner of Middle and Rocky Ford Roads to allow the construction of an assisted living center there.

According to the city/county planning department, Dover Development is asking to rezone the 8.48 acres at the southeast corner from Commercial: Neighborhood to Residential: Multi-Family.

The Columbus Plan Commission recommended approval for the change at its August meeting and City Council gave its first approval two weeks ago. That came over a recommendation from the city/county planning department that the request be denied, saying that the proposed rezoning does not represent responsible growth and development, nor does it represent the most desirable use for the property. Instead the staff recommended that it stay as a Commercial: Neighborhood zoned property.

City Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday night at Columbus City Hall.
