Congressman Mark Messmer (R-IN-08) has co-sponsored a bill that directs the U.S. Secretary of Defense to provide liquid or powdered milk to members of the Armed Forces at dining facilities on military installations.

The Strengthening Servicemembers with Milk Act was introduced on Thursday in the 119th Congress by Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI-03) and Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA-14), who also serves as Chief Deputy Whip of House Republicans.

The bill was first introduced by Van Orden and Reschenthaler in the 118th Congress. Both are U.S. Navy veterans—while Van Orden served as a U.S. Navy Seal.

“This legislation supports two of the greatest cornerstones of our nation – our farmers and servicemembers,” said Rep. Van Orden. “Milk is a vital source of nutrients, and our men and women of the Armed Forces should have access to this essential dietary resource to maintain their health and readiness. I am proud to reintroduce the Strengthening Servicemembers with Milk Act this Congress with Rep. Reschenthaler to invest in our troops and the hardworking dairy farmers across the nation.”

In addition to Messmer, other co-sponsors of the bill include Rep. Glenn “G.T.” Thompson (R-PA-15), Rep. Trent Kelly (R-MS-01), Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE-02), and Rep. Doug LaMalfa (CA-01).

Messmer is a Freshman Member of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 119th Congress. He is serving on the House Ag Committee with fellow Hoosier Congressman Jim Baird (R-IN-04).
