Broad Spectrum Fungicides Needed for Corn, Soybeans to Battle Disease Pressure
Disease pressure in certain parts of Indiana is starting to ramp up.
“About every field I’m in right now, I can find gray leaf spot,” says Chad Threewits, agronomic service rep for Syngenta in Indiana. “I’m even starting to see some northern corn leaf blight.”
He says tar spot is starting to come on too.
“So, we just mentioned three diseases there, and then we even start getting into stuff like ear rots and those that affect us later in the season. I think it’s really important to have that full spectrum when we go out there, because we don’t know what’s going to happen as we as we get later here in the season, and what kind of pressure we might see.”
That full spectrum he’s talking about is a fungicide with broad-spectrum control, like Miravis Neo.
For soybeans, he explains that it’s important to protect the entire canopy from disease.
“We’re putting pods on. You know, we want to save as many pods on every node that we can. So, especially right now, with some of the beans that got planted early, they look really good. And we’re trying to protect that whole canopy as we get disease coming in but also get through some of this stress. We talk about plant health benefits, and this stress we a lot of times see in the summer that maybe that that bean has to wait a little bit until we get a rain and just getting it through some of these stressful periods also helps with the fungicide.”
Threewits says Syngenta Cleaner & Greener fungicides deliver consistent yield bumps whether you’re in a pocket of the country with drier weather or an area that is wetter, or more at risk for disease.
“So, for corn and soybeans, Miravis Neo fungicide provides that cleaner and greener benefit. Also, for soybeans, we can do Miravis Neo fungicide or Miravis Top fungicide. Both of those are going to give us the most broad spectrum, highest potency, and the greatest benefits for those plant health benefits that we’re looking for.”
