Authorities say that an argument at a Greenwood apartment complex Tuesday night led to a man who was completely uninvolved getting shot to death.

According to the Greenwood Police Department, officers were called to the Westminster Apartments on a report of shots being fired at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday night. That’s where they found an unconscious 22-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to IU Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police investigation revealed that 21-year-old Isiah Q. Peak Jr. had been involved in an altercation, during which he brandished a firearm and shot at the person he was arguing with. But the shot missed, instead striking the victim, who was not involved. Police say that Peak then fled the scene.

Working with Indiana State Police and the U.S. Marshall’s Service, police gathered information that Peak was at a hotel near Interstate 70 and Post Road in Indianapolis. The Greenwood SWAT team were called to the scene and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Peak is being held in the Johnson County Jail on charges including Murder and Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon. He was also wanted on Greenwood City Court Warrants for False Identification and Operating a vehicle while never Receiving a Drivers License.

The victim’s name has not yet been released as authorities work to notify his next-of-kin.
