Columbus Scottish Festival kicks off Saturday at fairgrounds

The Columbus Scottish Festival returns to the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds this weekend for two days of highland-inspired entertainment and activities.

The event includes highland games, traditional music including bagpipes and drums, Scottish dances, cultural showcases and whiskey tasting. There will be food and vendors and tents set up to help with genealogy.

Activities Saturday start with the Highland Games competitions starting at 8:30 and the Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums at 9 a.m. A Highland Dance Competition begins at 10:30 at the Community Building. Opening ceremonies will be at noon. Events start again on Sunday at 9 with closing ceremonies at 3:45 p.m.

Musical entertainment will include Highland Reign, a Scots folk rock band from Indianapolis, Keltricity a four-piece band performing contemporary, traditional and eclectic Celtic music, and Kennedy’s Kitchen which performs Irish kitchen music, pub songs and story-telling. Various pipes and drums bands will also be performing throughout the weekend.

Tickets are $20 for each day, or $38 for both days. Children ages 5 to 12 can get in for $5. Children under 4 are free There are also family passes for $45 that covers two adults and up to three children for a single day.
