Fund-raising deadline approaching for InterOculus repair, upgrades

A deadline is coming up next week if you want to help upgrade and maintain the InterOculus canopy in downtown Columbus.

The Landmark Columbus Foundation is running a Patronicity online campaign to raise $50,000 for the project. If successful the campaign would unlock matching funds from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. The deadline is Sept. 15th.

InterOculus is the 40 foot tall canopy over the 4th and Washington Street intersection. It was installed as part of the 2023 Exhibit Columbus installations by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism. Originally meant to be a temporary installation, it has been adopted by the community as a public square. Over the weekend it hosted the second Rock the Block dance party, along with many other events over the past two years.

Money raised would go toward a structural analysis, maintenance upgrades, repainting and protective coating and support for next year’s Rock the Block.

The campaign has raised just under $35,500 toward the goal of $50,000 with 113 donors. Giving tiers range from $25, all the way up to $5,000 or more.
