Labor Day accidents close Interstate 65
A serious accident yesterday on Interstate 65 in Bartholomew County injured several people and closed the interstate for several hours.
According to Indiana State Police, troopers along with Bartholomew County deputies were on the scene of a crash in the southbound lanes of the interstate, about three miles north of the Columbus exit at about 8:30 a.m. Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed as rescue workers called in a helicopter ambulance to transport a patient.
While rescue workers were clearing the scene of that accident, a motorcyclist crashed in the traffic that was backed up, about a mile to the north at about 9:05 a.m. Monday morning. That led to another helicopter being called to the scene.
Troopers say that both accident scenes were cleaned up and the interstate was reopened by about 9:45 a.m.
