Brown County law enforcement launches citizens academy
Brown County residents will have an opportunity to learn more about law enforcement under a new Citizens Academy that comes from a partnership between the Leadership Brown County group and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the leadership group, the first class began earlier this month with local leaders who took on the role of citizen cadets. Organizers say that the goal of the program is provide education into the inner workings of police work, including the training and tools needed to work in the career. The cadets will also learn about the jail and what rehabilitation and services are provided to inmates, and how the Sheriff’s Department reaches beyond law enforcement lines within the community.
The first cohort met earlier this month at the Brown County Law Enforcement Center
The program is in an invitation only beta mode now. Organizers plan to use the first year to gain feedback and to allow local leaders to be ambassadors and champions for The Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Leadership Brown County, and this collaborative program.
The program will be free for those who are invited to apply and who can commit to the full duration of the program.
